Education and awareness is a vital part of conservation. Over the past decades we have learnt that working with local communities is essential for successful conservation.
A recent study about the attitude of Mauritians towards bats indicated that 94.68% (out of 310) Mauritians has little or no knowledge about bats.
The project aims to educate local population about the endemic flora and fauna of Mauritius. The main focus will be on the Mauritius fruit bat and its role in forest regeneration and maintenance. Through collaboration with local farmers we seek solutions to ongoing problem of bats eating commercial crops and hope to change people's perception about this 'keystone' species.
You will assist our education team in creating leaflets, brochures and posters. You will also travel to local schools to organise workshops for schoolchildren and local communities.
